I was born in Hong Kong where I studied primary school and learned most of my Chinese skills (which I had almost forgotten by now, just joking). Later, I migrated to Singapore where I completed my primary and secondary school, make some friends and started my "addiction" with computers.
Over the years I spend in Singapore, I had build up solid foundation in English as well as in Science. My love with science led to my involvement in many science quiz competitions during my final years in secondary school. At that time, most teachers are weary of me because I tend to ask too many questions....which are typically way above our level at that time. That's also the same reason why I manage to won quite a few awards among these science quiz competitions. The awards I won from these competitions caused me to become more and more "famous" in my secondary school. In addition, it promoted an atmosphere where students were interested to participate in science quiz competitions. (In the beginning, no one wants to participate in any science quiz competitions.....hence, I can easily obtained the opportunity to participate without difficulty ^_^)
Unfortunately, after I migrated to New Zealand to continue my high school and university study. The environment is completely different from Singapore's and there weren't similar competitions. Hence, I was rather ordinary then. Nevertheless, I maintained my history of excellent grades since Singapore and was awarded a few scholarships and summer studentships from Auckland University.
Well, during my honours project, I was fortunate to have elected Prof Dong Chen as my supervisor. He is a very nice person and I have been working with him since then. Hence, I ended up studying PhD under his supervision here in Monash University. Right now, I am slowly moving towards my goals in my career and I wonder if my dreams are going to come true soon..........
Graduated from Auckland University (2006) with Bachelor of technology (Btech) 1st class honours
Ever since I was young, I had read many science fiction books and have been strongly attracted to science and technology. The fascination and imagination conveyed through science fictions via movies, books and TVs.......gave me the "ignition" I needed to learn more about science. So that one day, maybe I can make those technology and gadgets possible....(or maybe someone else will start making and selling them for us to enjoy, just like the current generation of fascinating computer graphics that is possible (as seen in computer games and CG movies).
Well, isn't obvious that I love useful gadgets and the latest technology. And that's why I have been always keeping an eye on the science and latest technology news. (I wonder when would everyone would the private planes that is as affordable as cars today, as predicted by Popular Mechanics some time ago.....)
